About Us

Hawthorn & Honey is a woman-owned small business and intuitive herbalism school. Rooted in Tacoma, Washington, we’re committed to connecting with – and conserving – the Pacific Northwest’s native flora and traditional plant practices. Our carefully crafted offerings are for the sweet souls who crave nature’s balm as an antidote to stress, burnout, and exhaustion.

Our INSPIRATION

Inspired by the hawthorn tree, our version of life’s heart medicine is also grounded in nature and fed by the waters of plant knowledge.

Ancient hawthorn trees have long been known as a medicine for the heart. Its leaves, flowers, and berries have been used for centuries as a tonic for our most vital organ—strengthening it physically, emotionally, and spiritually. At Hawthorn & Honey, we believe that everyone in our busy modern world can benefit from a nature-based tonic for the heart, sweetened with a swirl of forest honey.

With our feet firmly rooted and our faces turned toward the sun, we’ve discovered that wild spaces so often hold the nourishment we collectively crave. We believe that a renewed plant-spirit connection—found through time in nature, vibrant plant formulas, or herbal education—offers an accessible path to nourish the body, soothe the mind, and feed the spirit.

OUR FOUNDER

Hi, I’m Sara…

Growing up on Whidbey Island, I was always enchanted by the flora of the Pacific Northwest – from the rich, loamy forests to the sacred seasides and lush fern patches. Enriched from an early age by the wisdom and teachings of local herbalists, I’ve spent years traipsing through the woods with a foraging basket in hand, connecting with local plants and crafting them into herbal formulas.

As my knowledge and understanding of the plants grew, so, too, did my awe of untamed spaces and beneficial herbs. Hawthorn & Honey is dedicated to the wilderness, and to all the wild, free folk under its spell.

Like most women, I’ve spent most of my life taking care of everyone and everything around me, my job, my family, my home, with very little time or energy left to care for myself. Deep within, I craved a life that was more connected to the seasons, one in which I could feel the sun on my face and share its warmth with other women who felt the same way I did: anxious, burnt out, and exhausted. Knowing there was a bigger purpose for my life, I took a leap of faith.

I quit my big city job and replaced frenzied commutes with forest communes. I renewed my lifelong passion for herbalism by completing a yearlong wildcrafting apprenticeship at Cedar Mountain Herb School and absorbing everything I could from the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine Immersion Program. I crawled through the ferns and worshipped in the wild. My hands were scratched by nettle and stained with turmeric. The sun finally kissed my face, and I learned to spread its warmth during front-porch conversations with herb-curious neighbors.

With time, I became more attuned to the wisdom that the plants—and my inner self—have to share, and what I found was richer than anything I ever expected.

I learned that being in nature is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. My forest outings and daily herbal practice gave me a rhythm and a power to face life head-on. More than ever before, I now know that we can ALL foster a plant-spirit connection. It simply gets buried during childhood and lies dormant until we listen to the plants whispering, singing, or in some cases - shouting!

I’m here to tell you that you CAN listen. Whether that means spending more time outdoors, nourishing yourself with vibrant plant potions, or furthering your herbal education, you, too, can replace the stresses of modern life with a more grounded, nourishing, and rewarding existence.

Feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair!

Xoxo,
Sara
